Sweden Approves New HCT Combinations – Ekeri Is Ready
15.4.2025Starting April 15, 2025, Sweden will allow three new types of HCT (High Capacity Transport) vehicle combinations – with a total length of up to 34.5 metres. Among them, the so-called Nordic combination has been long awaited by transport companies: it enables a long rigid truck to be combined with a dolly and semitrailer. At Ekeri, we are experts in this popular solution – and it has now finally been approved for use in Sweden.
With longer vehicle combinations, more cargo can be transported per trip. This means fewer journeys, lower fuel consumption, and reduced emissions. It’s a practical step towards more cost-efficient and climate-smart logistics.
“The biggest change is that the combination of rigid truck + dolly + semitrailer is now approved as an HCT configuration, and the truck may be up to 12 metres long. At Ekeri, we have extensive experience in developing high-capacity, easy-to-manoeuvre HCT solutions. The Nordic combination is our speciality,.”
– Fredrik Gripenwarg, Managing Director of Ekeri Sverige AB.

Cross-border HCT compatibility: Sweden and Finland
Sweden’s Transport Agency has issued an updated regulation (TSFS 2025:17) that sets the technical requirements for vehicle combinations longer than 25.25 metres. As of April 15, 2025, three new HCT combination types will be permitted, and the maximum length for link combinations will be increased.
Previously approved combinations in Sweden:
- A-double: tractor + dolly + two semitrailers
- AB-double: link truck + dolly + semitrailer
Newly approved combinations from April 15, 2025:
- B-double: tractor + longer link + semitrailer
- C-double: rigid truck + two central axle trailers
- Nordic combination: long rigid truck + dolly + semitrailer
All of these – except the C-double – are also permitted in Finland, enabling the design of configurations that comply with road regulations in both countries.
Dimensions and Requirements:
B-double: The first link trailer may be up to 12 metres long (from coupling point to rear).
Nordic combination: Truck max. 12 m + dolly + standard semitrailer (max. 13.6 m) → total length approx. 27 m.
